Decorative glass
Decorative glass has patterns impressed into it, with the result that the surface is textured; however, this process nevertheless means that decorative glass is only marginally more opaque than clear glass. Decorative glass is effective and eye catching when used in interiors, windows, and for furniture, such as table tops.

Frosted glass
Frosted glass is smooth to the touch and looks not unlike satin. Creating frosted glass involves acid etching one side of a piece of glass, and this process means that light continues to be allowed through, although it is somewhat softened. It is effective in the home on bathroom windows and shower screens, and in the office on partitions or office windows for enhanced privacy.

Tinted glass
Tinted glass has small quantities of metal oxides added to it during the manufacturing process, and this contributes to its colour and heat absorbing properties. The amount of light that tinted windows let through will depend on the colour and how thick the glass is.

Translucent glass
This is the glass (sometimes called obscured glass) that is often installed in bathroom and lavatory windows, as it obscures visibility and yet still allows light to shine through.

Float clear glass
Float clear glass is colourless and comes in standard or ultra glass, although the degree of visibility that it offers will nevertheless depend on the thickness of the glass, and this can vary quite significantly. Float glass is the sheet glass from which most modern windows are made. It is uniform in thickness and has very flat surfaces, but when it shatters it can break quite dramatically and can be dangerous.

Laminated glass
Laminated glass usually consists of two layers of glass with a laminated interlayer between them. This glass is particularly safe, as its strength and the interlayer prevents the glass breaking into small pieces when it is smashed or broken. This is especially effective glass in locations where there is a risk of children running into it, or the possibility of other heavy impacts. This safety glass is available in different colours.

Toughened glass
This is glass that is heat treated in order to increase its strength. The process means that it tends to crumble when it’s smashed, making it a good safety option as these small chunks are less dangerous and less likely to cause harm than shards of broken glass.

Solar glass
This is a glazed glass that is designed to prevent heat loss through windows and other glass surfaces. Solar tints can also be applied to existing windows, with a similar effect.

Leadlight glass
Leadlight glass is the name given to highly decorative stained glass that is installed in windows in patterns, with the different sections of the design being separated by lead cames. This is a particularly elegant form of glass decoration, and is often found above doorways in classic Adelaide cottages and villas.
